DO Somontano

Geography
 
            Separated a bit from the other three DO’s within Aragon, Somontano lies to the northeast of the town of Zaragoza and east of the town of Huesca.
 
Climate
 
            The climate in Somontano is continental, although more moderate than the other regions within Aragon because it is sheltered from the cold north wines by the Pyrenees. Summers are dry and arid.

DO Carinena

Geography
 
            Extended from and located to the east of Calatayud, Carinena is bisected by the River Huerva, a tributary of the River Ebro. The town of Zaragoza is to the northeast of the region. The vineyards are located from plain of the River Ebro through the reaches of the Sistema Iberica. 
 
Climate
 
            Continental with low amounts of rainfall.
 
Hazards
 
            Drought, hail and the cold northerly cierzo wind.

DO Calatayud

Geography

            Calatayud is located south of Campo de Borja within the Zaragoza province. Carinena abuts Calatayud to the east. The Jalon River flows through the northern part of the region. 
 
Climate

            Continental climate, with portions that are semi-arid. Winds moderate the summer heat, but temperatures can easily reach 100° F. Rainfall varies between 10-25 inches per year.

            Frosts.

DO Campo de Borja

Climate
 
            Arid, continental climate with very warm summertime day temperatures. At night, the temperatures are cool. Average rainfall per year is 17 inches. The cierzo is a cold and dry north wind that dominates the area during the winter time.
