DO Ycoden-Daute-Isora

Geography
 
            DO Ycoden-Daute-Isora is located in the northwest corner of the island of Tenerife. The DO is surrounded entirely to the east by DO Valle de la Orotava. The DO is a combination of steeply sloping mountains and plains.
 
Climate
 
            Because of the aspect of the mountain ranges and the presence of the plains, the most basic way to generalize the climate is hot. There are several microclimates depending on where the vineyards are situated. 
 
            Average temperature: 66F-95F.

DO Valle de la Orotava

Geography
 
            The vineyards covered by DO Valle de la Orotava are located on the lower, western slopes of Mount Teide on the island of Tenerife. One of five DOs on the island, DO Valle de la Orotava is situated to the southwest of DO Tacoronte-Acentejo and west of Valle de Guimar.
 
Climate
 
            Humid and hot maritime climate.
 
            Average temperature: 59F-83F.
 
            Average rainfall: Roughly 25 inches annually.

DO Valle de Guimar

Geography
 
            Situated to the south of DO Tacoronte-Acentejo and to the east of DO Valle de la Orotava, DO Valle de Guimar is one of five DOs located on the island of Tenerife.
 
Climate
 
            Warm, maritime climate that can be tempered by the trade winds.
 
            Average temperature: 53F-65F.
 
            Average rainfall: Roughly 15 inches annually.
 
            Sunshine hours: 2,900 hours annually.

DO Tacoronte-Acentejo

Geography
 
            One of five DOs located on the island of Tenerife, DO Tacoronte-Acentejo is located in the northeast section of the island. DO Valle de Guimar is to the south while DO Valle de la Orotava is to the southwest.
 
Climate
 
            Temperate, but very humid climate.
 
            Average temperature: 60F-86F.
 
            Average rainfall: Between 7-12 inches annually.
 
            Sunshine hours: Roughly 2,500 hours.

DO Lanzarote

Geography
 
            The most easterly of the DO’s within the Canary Islands, DO Lanzarote covers the entire island of Lanzarote. The island is to the northeast of the larger island, Fuerteventura.
 
Climate
 
            Subtropical climate tempered by sea breezes.
 
            Average temperature: 60F-75F.
 
            Average rainfall: Roughly 6 inches of rainfall per year.
 
            Sunshine hours: 2,700 hours annually.

DO El Hierro

Geography
 
            Southwest of the island of La Palma, DO El Hierro covers the westernmost island of the Canary Islands – El Hierro. 
 
Climate
 
            Fairly steady, mild and dry climate, with more rainfall in the higher elevations.
 
            The wet, summer winds – the Alisios – race through the northwest section of the island.
 
            Average temperature: 64F-83F.
 
            Average rainfall: Roughly 4-21 inches.

DO La Palma

Geography
 
            Northeast of the islands of El Hierro, the DO La Palma covers the entire island of La Palma. 
 
Climate
 
            The climate within DO La Palma is a mild and subtropical. Throughout the island, there are a variety of microclimates. Within higher altitudes in the northeast sections of Norte de La Palma rain is more dominant. At lower elevations, where the slopes face east, the climate is much drier, bordering on arid as one gets closer to the coast. Fuencaliente has the driest and most arid microclimate on the island.
 
            Average temperature: 55F-75F.
