DO Tierra de Leon

Geography
 
            Located to the southeast of the town of Leon, DO Tierra de Leon is one of the most recent DOs in the Castile and Leon province. DO Cigales is to the southeast with DO Bierzo to the west.

DO Toro

Geography
 
            DO Toro is sandwiched between DO Rueda to the east and DO Tierra del Vino de Zamora to the west. The river Duero flows through the northern reaches of the DO with one of its tributaries, the river Guarena cutting through the center of the denominacion.
 
Climate
 
            Textbook continental climate with long, hot summers and bitterly cold winters.

DO Rueda

Geography
 
            Located within Castile and Leon, DO Rueda extends eastward from the vineyards of DO Toro. The river Duero flows across the northern reaches of the DO with the rivers Zapardiel, Adaja, Voltoya and Eresma branching off of the Duero and through the Rueda vineyard area.
           
Climate
 
            Continental. Although the summer temperatures are high, they do not reach the soaring temperatures located through the rest of the meseta.

DO Ribera del Duero

Geography
 
            Located in southeastern Castile and Leon, the vineyards of DO Ribera del Duero are located along the banks of the River Duero. It is a long vineyard area, stretching some 70 miles from east to west.
 
Climate
 
            A unique balance between continental and Mediterranean climates. Summers are hot and dry and the winters are extremely cold.

DO Cigales

Geography
 
            Located to the west of DO Ribera del Duero, the DO Cigales is located on a high, central plain. The River Pisuerga cuts through the appellation and its vineyards.
 
Climate
 
            Continental with extreme temperature fluctuations.

DO Bierzo

Geography
 
            DO Bierzo is situated in the northwest corner of Castile and Leon. Surrounded by mountains on three sides, with the Cordillera Cantabrica to the north, the Sierra de Cabrera to the south and the Montes de Leon to the east. The River Sil, along with its tributaries, flow through the region.
 
Climate
 
            The harsher aspects of the continental climate of the meseta are tempered by the mountains and river valleys within the region. There is a slight maritime influence on the vineyards as well.
